A lone cyclist through the afternoon

past a freshly mown field and haystacks

a lone cyclist

past a lone tree left standing in the field

against a backdrop

of bushes

and snakeweed left unmown

a lone cyclist

a dog

upon seeing the cyclist

starts barking

so the dog’s even more lonesome

after all

he didn’t bark at the haystacks

so he’s even more lonesome

than the cyclist

and they all me  happy

the lone cyclist

the lone dog

the lone tree

So you’re even more lonesome?

inquires someone’s voice

Isn’t this Someone

even more lonely

than all the rest?
